Fixing Your Broken Break/Fix Business

Data Parts Shepparton started in 1993 and has always had a significant focus on retail sales and break/fix repairs. In the four year since they added Managed Services they’ve increased monthly recurring revenue to nearly $30,000 per month without impacting billable hours; usually the first thing to be replaced by Managed Services. The introduction of Managed Services has generated high margin monthly recurring revenue, significantly reduced stress for staff as well as allowing Data Parts to build more reliable and comprehensive solutions for their clients.

Building on Greg Lipschitz’s presentation about bundling products and services at last year’s conference (“Shut up and take my money!”), Kieran will explain the changes he’s made to introduce Managed Services to his business by leveraging the vendor relationships available to SMBiT Professional members. Importantly these changes can be made by anyone attending the presentation; from a one-person consultant to a business with many staff.

Building a $1bn Unicorn, with Paul Macneill

When it comes to building value in your business, it’s not revenue that determines success, when you are looking to exit.

During this session, we’ll walk you through the proven areas that have a positive impact on the value of your business if you were ever to be considered for acquisition, merger or a straight out sale.

Having been-there-done-that recently with the acquisition of Paul MacNeill’s Melbourne Based MSP, we explore the ways in which businesses strike real value that sticks when the due-diligence brigade come in with their red-ink.

Whether you’re gunning for $1bn, or values in a more conservative order of $1M; Paul will walk you through the basis of how businesses are valued and more importantly what you can do now to start preparing your business to achieve the values that you deserve.

Wayne Small

Moved in 60 seconds

How to move servers in 60 seconds on a shoe string budget.

Ever had that requirement from a client, you’ve got some VMs on a host, and need to move them to another host. But wait – this isn’t a clustered environment, in fact it’s just a couple of Hyper-V servers and they are not even joined to the same domain. It gets better though as the hosts are in two different locations with only a 10MB/s link between them both. Oh and there’s extremely limited budget for it too. Sounds like a plot from Mission Impossible.

This talk will show you not only how to do it, but explain the pit falls you might come across and how to get around them. You’ll walk away with a firm understanding of how to use this technology not only to move servers quickly, but also to provide disaster recovery environments for your clients and be the star. And before I forget, did I say that the technology to do this is free and works with both Linux and Windows VMs?

Stop being your client's bank - Practical solutions on getting paid sooner.

As financial consultant to business from small one man bands turning over $200k per year, to businesses with turnover of $80M p.a., we see businesses of all sizes suffer with one of the most common ailments. It’s time to stop being your clients banks and start focussing on getting paid up-front or sooner.

With more of your margins set to erode over the next 3-5 years, only the businesses with the best cashflow will stand a chance of surviving in the wastelands of bad payments, and forever aging debtors.

Paul will work through some of the practical suggestions on how he was able to reduce his aged debtor days down from over 47 to 2, which had a dramatic impact on the working capital available to fund the business’ growth.
